A study that was published in scientific journal Nutrients has revealed that cranberry juice drinkers are more likely to be an average weight, have significantly slimmer waistline and are at a less risk of cardiovascular disease.
The journal that was published by MDPI, identified a connection between the much-loved juice and a healthy body giving further evidence that highlights the fruits’ great health benefits.
Researchers found that adults who drank an average of two 200ml glasses of juice over two non-consecutive days have better cardio metabolic profiles (markers for cardiovascular disease), than those who don’t drink it.
The study also noted that cranberry juice drinkers had a lower waist circumference and that they were less likely to be overweight or obese compared to non-consumers.
Of the groups evaluated in the study, each demonstrated significantly lower risk of having high C-reactive protein levels, which is a marker of infection and inflammation.
“The correlation between cranberry juice consumption and its nutritive benefits are clear,” said Kiyah J. Duffey, Ph.D., Virginia Tech, first author on the paper.
“While the data are preliminary, the results suggest that cranberry juice cocktail can provide positive benefits and be part of a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.”
Though there have been studies that have observed the health benefits of the juice, this is among the first to look at the relationship between a healthy body composition and cranberry juice together.
