An Irish mother was found dead beside her car in a Southern Sydney car park yesterday (Australian time).
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, 39-year-old mother-of-three Comrie Cullen was found with knife wounds by passers-by in the suburb of Taren Point.
Police detained a 50-year-old man believed to be Ms Cullen’s estranged husband Christopher Cullen who had cuts to his wrists and chest that are consistent with self-inflicted injuries.
Comrie and Christopher split last October after a 15 year marriage.
The couple’s three children, aged 11, seven and five, are being cared for by friends of the family.
Their grandparents who live in Ireland have been contacted and are making preparations to fly to Australia.
Superintendent Gregory Antonjuk told media outlets that Mr Cullen is in hospital awaiting surgery and is under police guard.
He will be interviewed when his condition improves but no charges have been laid as of yet.
Superintendent Antonjuk said the case has been very distressing for police. “I have spoken with the investigators and staff, and obviously with the circumstances of yesterday afternoon they will be getting counselling,” he said.
