A three-year-old boy has passed away in Galway city centre this afternoon.
It is understood the child was trapped alone in a lift shaft at the Hynes Building on Augustine Street.
Member of the fire brigade and the ambulance service attended the scene in the heart of Galway city, reports say the alert was raised at 3.15pm and fire crews arrived at 3.19pm.
His remains were taken from the scene a short time ago and the building was closed off to allow for a technical examination.
It is unclear how the boy became trapped in the lift at this stage.
