Stephen McLaughlin set up the website NameMyDaughter.com and invited users of the online message board Reddit to contribute ideas for first and middle names.
In order to convince his wife to go ahead with such a plan, Stephen said he and his other half will have final choice on the names put forward.
Mr McLaughlin wrote on his site: ‘Hi, My name is Stephen and much to the disbelief of my wife, I have decided to let the internet name* my daughter.
‘Yeah that is an asterisk, Unfortunately internet I know better than to trust you. We will ultimately be making the final decision, Alas my daughter shall not be named WackyTaco692. Sorry guys the wife wouldn’t go for a free for all.
You can vote once for as many names as you want. Don’t forget to checkout all of the first, middle or even both names for more options. ‘Inappropriate submissions may be removed.’

Amelia Mae is the top choice at the moment (image courtesy of NameMyDaughter.com).
The leading contender at the moment is Amelia Mae McLaughlin but there have been some outlandish submissions including Cthulhu, Laquisha, Megatron, Slagathor and Leslie for the child’s first name.
Middle names suggested for the baby due on April 2, include All-Spark, Le-Dash-A, Pond, Salad and Titanium.
UPDATE (3.00pm, April 22nd): Stephen and Alysha McLaughlin should have named their daughter Cthulhu All-Spark but decided to go against public opinion in the end.
According to reports, the couple have opted instead for Amelia (which came in second in the public poll) Savannah Joy.
Reckon that’ll teach them not to trust the public with such an important thing again!
