A four-year-old boy died yesterday after falling into a bathtub under the watch of his babysitter in a luxury apartment located at Times Square, New York.
According to the child’s babysitter she had left the little boy sitting on a ledge in the bathroom while she left the room momentarily.
On hearing a loud noise she ran back to the bathroom where she discovered that the child had fallen into the bathtub.
Emergency services rushed the child to St.Luke’s Hospital on Roosevelt Island where he was pronounced dead.
Police sources told NBC New York that the boy had been found with cuts and burns on his face, burns on his genitals, as well as yellow foam around his mouth.
Some of the burns were from cigarettes and the 37-year-old babysitter couldn’t account for any of the injuries.
She said the child had been placed in her care before his father was arrested on a warrant on December 31 and is still in prison.
It is not clear where the boy’s mother is but police sources are reported to have told The New York Daily News that she lost custody.
A post-mortem is expected to take place today and charges will be filed after that.
