A British national and his actress wife have been assassinated in front of their daughter during a roadside robbery in Venezuela.
Initial reports from Venezuelan media had suggested that Thomas Berry was Irish, however the Department of Foreign Affairs investigated the case and it has been confirmed that Berry was of British origin.
According to reports from South American media outlets including Broadcaster Noticias 24 , Thomas Henry Berry, 39, and his 29-year-old wife Monica Spear Mootz were murdered last night on the Puerto-Cabello – Valencia highway by armed raiders.
It is thought that they were held up after their car broke down and their bodies were later discovered in the car.
According to Venezuelan media, their five-year-year-old daughter suffered injuries to her leg and is currently under policy protection.
Ms Spear Mootz won the title of Miss Venezuela in 2004 and later went on to work as an actress.
