41-year-old Jenny Lauren was travelling to the States from Barcelona when her plane was forced to divert and land in Shannon airport yesterday afternoon after she became unruly on flight.
Jenny, the niece of renowned fashion designer Ralph Lauren, was arrested following an alleged air rage incident on board a Delta Airline flight bound for JFK New York.
According to BreakingNews the woman is accused of breaching the peace on board the transatlantic flight, and spent the night in a cell at Shannon Garda Station, making no reply when charged under the Air Navigation and Transport Act.
Lauren has been charged with being drunk and a danger to herself and other passengers, behaving unruly despite requests from the air crew to stop and with engaging in a threatening, abusive or insulting manner.
The woman has told a Co. Clare court today that she intends to plead guilty to charges.
Speaking in court, Garda Yvette Walsh explained that the jewellery designer asked officers, “can you say that in English please?” while being detained at the airport.
Judge Patrick Durkan has said that he intends to remand Ms. Lauren on the bail of €2,500 and has been ordered to sign on at Shannon Garda Station tonight and surrender her passport.
Lauren is to appear before Ennis District Court tomorrow.
