55-Year-Old Woman Strikes Playboy Style Poses For Her Daughter’s Photo Project

An interesting project

Cathy Donohue

55-year-old Candace Krick agreed to pose for a series of photos inspired by vintage Playboys under the direction of her photographer daughter, Natalie.

One of the images sees Candace pose with Skittles in her bra to give the impression of erect nipples.

Natalie told NY magazine that although she and her mother think the Skittles photograph has a funny side, not everyone sees it as such.

She recalled:’ ‘I remember showing this photograph in grad school at one of my reviews and one of the men in the room was like, “This is not funny. She should be embarrassed that her headlights are on.”

‘I think a lot of the time, people view my work as a critique against my mom.

Natalie added, ‘I think that some of the pictures make them uncomfortable – like, this is an older woman being sexualized. I think it’s really powerful but can also make people uneasy and sometimes they lash out.’

Before her mother became her muse, Natalie would recruit models but felt weird asking them to pose so intimately.

The 27-year-old says she can’t help but wonder if this is how she look look in years to come, ‘There’s this question of, “Is this who I am going to be when I grow up? Am I going to turn into this woman?”‘

Cahdace is always willing to pose for pictures, according to Natalie, but it’s not necessarily her favourite thing to do as she is a little ‘shy’.

The duo say the project entitled Natural Deceptions has brought them closer together and initiated conversation topics that wouldn’t have come up before this.

‘We have talked about identity and how we think other people view us,’ Natalie told the Chicago Arts Archive.

‘It definitely has opened up conversations that probably wouldn’t have happened before. She is fully aware of my ideas.’
