The actress bared her soul

Cathy Donohue

Eastenders actress June Brown (Dot Cotton) spoke about her personal life while appearing on talk show Life Stories.

June was a special guest on the ITV show and her appearance coincides with the release of her autobiography: Before The Year Dot.

The actress talked about her personal life including her six children with Bob Arnold.

Presenter Piers Morgan asked June if she was a good mother, she replied “No, I don’t think I was. I think I could’ve been. I wasn’t a natural mother. I love my children but it was a lot of work.”

Piers then asked June whether the sacrifice she made by choosing to work had been worth it.

June replied: “I don’t think I could have done anything else, quite honestly. I’d have been very depressed, very miserable,’ said June. ‘I was a bit selfish I suppose.”

She also spoke about her first husband Johnny Garely whom June met as part of her stage career.

When questioned if it was love at first sight, June replied “No, I just liked him. He had a big personality. He was very amusing, very funny and he was very light hearted in those days and he was just fun to be with.”

June married Johnny at 23 and felt things were going well but things took a tragic turn when he killed himself.

The actress also spoke about stripping off for Calendar Girls in 2009, she was the only one to pose naked while the other women opted for flesh coloured underwear.
