The Next Season Of Love/Hate Will Have 12 Episodes

Another twelve episodes to look forward to!

Sue Murphy

We heard some rumours that series five of Love/Hate would be a slightly more extended affair but it now seems the rumours are true.

According to the Irish Independent, series five of the show will include a whopping twelve new episodes.

It seems that the focus of the show will be removed from gangland crime to the consequences of that crime, that is the prison system and jail.

The end of the last season feature Nidge in a prison cell after having some sort of breakdown and turning himself in.

According to the Herald, writer Stuart Carolan is very interested in showing the consequences of the criminals’ actions in the fifth series.

“The consequences of gangland is what comes next in Love/Hate, the court cases and jail,” said an insider.

Carolan told the Herald: “We’ve done a good bit in Wheatfield already but I have zero knowledge of the prison system and want to learn more.”

Director David Caffrey has outlined that the two seasons from 2013 and 2014 will be closely tied: “The mindset was that we’d make something to run over 12 episodes, as opposed to six. We’re expanding the storylines over a longer period of time and we didn’t want to do a ‘shoot them and gun them all down’ thing again.”

However, neither Caffrey or Carolan have commented on whether this series of Love/Hate will be the last.

“We could take a dump in the ratings and the show is over. It’s a worry. But all you can do is be true to yourself, not write by market research and no character is safe,” Caffrey said.

Hat tip to the Herald and the Independent.
