The annual work Christmas party is often met with mixed reactions. Excitement at sharing a night out with people you spend a lot of time with and dread at the possibility of making a full-on fool of yourself. This is otherwise known as the fear, which generally comes after a night out. However, we urge you to forget about all that and enjoy the craic a Christmas party brings…

Someone makes like Beyoncé…
The alcohol and cheesy music mix is a potent combination and you can pretty much guarantee someone will succumb to the lure and get their groove on. Baby in Dirty Dancing, they aren’t but if they have fun.. sure isn’t that all that matters. It also provides a great form of entertainment for the rest of the party.

Someone loses a shoe/shoes
As we all know, heels often become too painful and they must come off… be careful of this as you may forget where you left them which can be quite a traumatic experience as one member of Team Her.ie found out. Plus no one wants to hear the shriek of pain as you struggle to squeeze those skyscrapers back on.
Someone will get a little drunk
Unfortunately this is par for the course when you get a group of people together and throw in excessive amounts of alcohol. Just do your best to keep it together until you leave the party, for the sake of all involved.

Someone has a drunken DMC (deep meaningful conversation) with their boss
Well, this is NEVER a good thing. One too many glasses of vino can lead to confiding your deepest darkest secrets to your poor unfortunate boss who doesn’t know where to look… bring on the awkward shoulder pats and pleading glances to get him/her out of this terribly awkward situation.
Someone will have a house party
Going back to someone’s house for an after party is generally thought of as a brilliant idea, not so much if you have work to contend with the following day. Don’t do it people… don’t do it.
Someone will cry
What can we say, some of us have a tendency to get emotional when alcohol is involved. There’s no harm in that apart from the fact that it might be a bit embarrassing the next time you come to face with your work mates…

Someone will get lucky
It is the festive season after all, a time for caring and sharing and all that jazz. The office flirting which has been going on for a few months now may move to another level…although it may not be the best idea considering you have to work together.
Someone will insist on shots
The night may start off on a sensible note but at some stage you’re likely to hear the command “SHOTS”!

Someone may start a fight
Alcohol has an emotional effect on some of us but for others it’s the perfect opportunity to ask your colleague why she didn’t include you on the email sent to everyone else in the office. It may have been a routine mail but you do not appreciate being left out. Ever.

Someone makes a declaration of love
Filled with Christmas cheer, someone may feel the need to tell you that they love you. Nod and smile and please don’t remind them of this moment ever again.
