Ice Skating, A Gangster And Arnie, The Best Films On TV Today

There are quite a few in here...

Sue Murphy

There are so many films on over the Christmas period that we thought we might help you out and pick some of the best from across the important days. Mainly the days that you will be at home and stuck in front of a television screen. Here are some of our favourites.

1. Home Alone 3, Channel 4, 1.55pm

Ok, so we may not have Macauley anymore, but we still have Home Alone, so we got to take the good with the bad. Alex, the new kid, tries to prevent a terrorist organisation from getting a hold of a top-secret chip which is in his toy car. Of course.

2. Tron: Legacy, RTE1, 3.35pm

It’s a reboot but it’s a fairly good one. Tron: Legacy took us back inside the world of Tron, this time with the son of the virtual designer from the first film.

3. Pitch Perfect, Sky Movies Comedy, 8pm

We don’t really to say much except that Anna Kendrick is in this, but Pitch Perfect is probably one of the most fun films that has been released over the last few years. Beca is persuaded to join The Bellas, her college’s all singing group. Lots of laughs, Pitch Perfect would be our pick of the day.

4. Mamma Mia, RTE2, 8pm

There seems to be a lot of musicals floating around for New Year’s Eve but we have to say, Meryl Streep singing in this particular film definitely makes our night. Just genius with a brilliant cast. Pierce Brosnan singing S.O.S . made our lives.

5. The Godfather, Film 4, 9pm

Certainly one of the greatest classics of our times, The Godfather tells the tale of one of the most important Godfathers and his impact on those around him. Based on the bestseller by Mario Puzo, Brando gives the performance of his life. If you haven’t seen this, you need to check this out.

6. Blades of Glory, RTE2, 9pm

Will Ferrell. Figure-skating champion. Support cast including Amy Poehler. Do we really need to say anything else to sell this? Not really.

7. New Year’s Eve, Sky Christmas, 10pm

A typical kind of rom-com but one that will definitely be apt this evening! New Year’s Eve weaves various different romantic stories together for the most important night of the year.

8. Commando, Sky Movies Action 11.40pm

Arnie begins a one-man army to take down a South American terrorist ring who have kidnapped his daughter. It may not exactly be New Year’s Eve viewing but it is certainly one of the funnier Arnie films. It certainly doesn’t mean to be.
