We Irish have a very unique way of complimenting and insulting each other. In fact, it’s so good that sometimes we can’t tell the difference between the two. Here are twelve compliments that are uniquely Irish…
1. You’re a cute hoor.
Definition: You’re some rogue, but really, you’re brilliant.
2. You lucky bitch.
Definition: I wish I were you, you are amazing.
3. You’re quare good at that.
Definition: Bordering on insult, you’re strangely good at that.

4. You’re some boyo.
Definition: You are the greatest of the boys. This one is all about the tone.
5. You’re not the worst of them.
Definition: Really, you’re probably the best, but we can’t make you feel that good. So you’re not the worst.
6. You’re an awful divil.
Definition: You’re a total messer but you’re just so good at it.
7. Well, aren’t you the cat’s pyjamas?
Definition: You’re just brilliant, but you are also totally aware of that.

8. Ah sure, you’re no fun at all.
Definition: I really want to spend time with you but the only way I can convince you to do that is to tell you that you’re no fun, but you are a lot of fun. Exactly the opposite of what I am saying here basically.
9. Ah, will you stop talking shite?!
Definition: Oh, please continue, you are hilariously funny.
10. Ah, your Ma!
Definition: We’re so bad at compliments that we need to bring the family into it. “You’re brilliant” to which the reply is inevitably “Your Ma!”.

11. You’ve some neck on ya!
Definition: You have no shame, but we really appreciate that. Nothing would get done otherwise, so fair play.
12. I HATE you.
Definition: The ultimate phrase uttered in envy and admiration. Oh, I really hate you means I really love you and want to be you.
