The fall in temperature means that winter is the season for colds and flu, but it doesn’t have to be. For the next few weeks we’re going to suggest easy ways to avoid the chesty coughs, runny-noses, sore heads and expensive trips to the doctor.
One way to prevent the cold is plenty of rest.
A sufficient amount of sleep can work wonders on the body.

Our body finds it difficult to function when we’re tired, and so too does our immune system.
To help get our system up and running again can be as simple as getting a good night’s sleep.
Here are four ways to ensure you rest a little easier.
1. When the temperature drops outside we crank up the heating indoors, and contrary to belief, we actually get a better quality of sleep in a cooler room. Our body adjusts to room temperature so trying to sleep in a bedroom that’s too warm may leave you restless.
2. Don’t consume caffeine late in the day.
3. Exercising in the evening can help promote a healthier sleep.
4. Switch off – it is important to down all electronic devices before hoping into bed. Ensure that you allow time for your mind to unwind and relax.
It is also important to note that every individual needs different amounts of rest.
Studies suggest that an average of 8 hours per night is a healthy amount of sleeping time.
Stay tuned for more tips to avoid the cold and flu this winter. You’ll have no excuse to be feeling anything less than your best.
