It’s one of the absolute basics when it comes to good health, and a new study has found one more reason why a good night’s sleep is worth its weight in gold.
According to a new study, women who wake up and go to bed at the same time each day could be thinner in the long run.
For the study, published in the American Journal of Health Promotion, researchers studied 300 women, between the ages of 17 and 26, and found that those with the best sleeping habits over the course of several weeks had less body fat than their counterparts with more erratic sleep patterns.
Though studies have previously shown a link between weight and the time spent sleeping each night, this is the first to link regularity of bedtime with body weight.
It’s not an excuse to spend sundown to sunup asleep though, as it seems a happy medium really is key. Too little or too much sleep, found to be under 6.5 hours or more than 8.5 hours were both linked to higher body fat.
