Britney Ahoy! The UK Navy Admits They Use Britney Tracks To Scare Away Pirates

Of all the uses that Britney Spears music could have, we never imagined that one of them was fending off pirates.

According to Metro, the singer’s tracks are blasted out to scare off Somali pirates and prevent kidnap attacks.

Second Officer Rachel Owens, who works on supertankers off the East Coast of Africa, told the Metro: ‘Her songs were chosen by the security team because they thought the pirates would hate them most.

‘These guys can’t stand Western culture or music, making Britney’s hits perfect.’

The UK Navy have found that the songs which are particularly useful are Oops! I Did It Again and Baby, One More Time.

“It’s so effective the ship’s security rarely needs to resort to firing guns,” said Owens. “As soon as the pirates get a blast of Britney, they move on as quickly as they can.”

According to reports, there were as many as 176 attacks on ships by bandits in 2011. The Navy currently has sailors operating round-the-clock patrols in the area.

Seems it’s them against the music. Sorry, we had to do that.
