Princess Party: Disney Gowns To Be Auctioned For Charity

Cathy Donohue

Couture gowns inspired by ten of our favourite Disney princesses are to be auctioned in aid of the Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital.

The princess muses include Ariel, Aurora from Sleeping Beauty, Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine, Mulan, Pocahontas, Rapunzel, Snow White and Tiana.

Luxury couturiers such as Versace, Elie Saab, Oscar de la Renta, Marchesa and Missoni designed the dresses which were originally displayed in the window of Harrods.

Clare Borthwick, Vintage Couture Specialist at Christie’s, said: ‘We are really looking forward to auctioning these inspirational pieces that embody both high-end fashion and childhood nostalgia. They will be a fantastic addition to our annual Vintage Couture sale, which is taking place on the 13 November 2013. The rarity of these items mixed with the global appeal of Disney Princesses will make these extremely sought-after, and we expect much interest from around the world.’

The auction goes live on 13 November but a bidding war for the stunning dresses has already begun.

They will also go on public view for the second time, as part of Christie’s Vintage Couture and Luxury Handbags auction from 9th November at Christie’s South Kensington, appearing in a winter wonderland setting specially created for Harrods.

Christie’s fashion specialists predict the Cinderella dress by Versace, the Belle dress by Valentino and the Snow White dress by Oscar de la Renta will be the most popular.
