It’s That Time Of Year- The Mo Makes A Return

Cathy Donohue

2013 marks the 6th Movember campaign as men across the country prepare to do their bit for charity.

The process is simple; Irish Mos Bros register at Movember.com, start the 1st November clean shaven and just wait for the Mo to take shape.

All of the money raised goes to men’s health; the money raised in Ireland goes to the Irish Cancer society and the Movember Foundation’s global research initiative GAP.

Mo Sistas also have a part to play in this gig, by organising events and fundraising.

Last year 17,250 Mo Bros and Sistas raised over €2.1 million for men’s health in Ireland with over 1.1 million Mo Bros and Sistas raising €113.5 million worldwide.

It is important to know that over 2,500 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year and 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.

Movember Ireland Country Manager Neil Rooney said, ‘Generation Mo is the culmination of five years of Movember and moustache growth in Ireland. As well as raising much needed funds for the Irish Cancer Society’s initiative, Action Prostate Cancer, Movember continues to shine a light on the issue of Men’s Health in Ireland. Movember gets men talking about health issues which results in early detection of prostate cancer’.

There are a few well-known faces joining Movember this year including Danny O’Reilly of The Coronas, rugby player Cian Healy, Irish rock outfit Wounds, MMA champions Cathal Pendred and Chris Fields and sporting funny men Ger Gilroy and Dave McIntyre from Newstalk’s Off The Ball.

Speaking about Movember Danny O’Reilly said, “It’s great to part of Generation Mo. Who wouldn’t want to be part of something where men’s health takes centre stage for an entire month? I’m looking forward to rocking out a Mo for the first time ever. Remember to register at www.movember.com, and don’t Mo alone, get the lads involved and show your support for men’s health”.

At the end of the month, Mo Bros and Mo Sistas celebrate their achievement by throwing Movember parties or attending one of the famous Gala Partés held in Dublin, Cork and around the world.
