The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton took part in a workshop for charity SportsAid today, her first solo engagement since the birth of her son George in July.

SportsAid helps both disabled and non-disabled young athletes with the cost of training, accommodation, equipment and travel.

The 32-year-old arrived at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in East London dressed in dark skinny jeans, striped top, blazer and wedge heels.

Kate rolled up her designer sleeves to play volleyball – despite wearing the enormous five-inch wedges.

The Russell and Bromley heels didn’t stop her at the volleyball net but she did tell one young fencer: “I’d like to give it a go but I’ve brought the wrong shoes.”

A source told The Mirror: “Kate is devoted to being a mother, however she feels ready to resume some royal duties and will be carrying out a few engagements before Christmas.

“She understands the impact her appearance can make for her charities and wants to support them.

“However her programme will, understandably, remain fairly sparse for the immediate future at least.”

Royal officials have previously stated that Kate’s maternity leave is a “personal matter” but it is thought that she will gradually increase her workload before travelling with husband William on behalf of the Queen next year.

The proud parents and their baby son George have just moved into an apartment in Kensington Palace.
