My heart, it breaks.
Look lads, we know. Liberty is a queen and Jake does not deserve her. We were rooting for them, but it’s not going to work out – and tonight’s episode pretty much proves it.
For the past few days, the water engineer has been chatting incessantly about how his head could still be turned if someone new came into the villa, and tonight, it’s looking like he’s up to his old tricks.
Tonight, Faye receives a text which reads: “Islanders. The Hideaway’s open tonight. Please choose a lucky couple to spend the night alone #taketheplunge #latenightsnack.”
It’s decided that Liberty and Jake should be the first couple to go and spend a night alone, and Jake celebrates by jumping in the pool.

Speaking in the Beach Hut, Liberty says: “So, the Hideaway is open for the first time in 2021. I’m excited to see what it looks like and see what happens.”
The pair then head off and give each other massages before settling down for the night. It’s not known exactly what goes on, but given Jake’s pool-based reaction, we can only presume.
The next morning, the islanders enjoy a brunch together to get to know each other better. It’s then that Jake drops the rather disappointing bombshell that he’s open to getting to know other people.
“If there was a girl who came in here who was my type, and you know my type, I would want to get to know her,” he says.
“We’re here for the same reason. If there was a lad and he was your type, you would still get to know him.”

From what we can tell, Jake says this directly to Liberty – which, yeah okay, is a lot better than him saying it to Hugo every other day, but still, man. The morning after you spend the night alone together? Really?
It’s not yet known what Liberty’s response is to this admission, but we can only hope that she’s on the same page as Jake and doesn’t get her heartbroken.
Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on Virgin Media One.
