“He was out to prove something.”
In 2013, American footballer player and NFL tight end Aaron Hernandez was arrested for murder.
Hernandez had been charged with the murder of Odin Lloyd, a semi-pro footballer player who had been having a relationship with Hernandez’s fiancée’s sister.
While on trial, Hernandez was also linked to another double murder of which he was eventually acquitted. He was, however, convicted for the murder of Lloyd and sentenced to life in prison, only to be found dead in his cell not long after.
Considering the elaborate and almost unbelievable in parts nature of the above series of events, it’s hardly surprising that Netflix have gone and decided to release a documentary about it all.

Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez is a three part series that will delve deep into Hernandez’s crimes and his personal life, and attempt to uncover why a man who seemingly “had it all” turned out the way he did.
Including interviews and news footage featuring the people who knew him closely, the new series will examine Hernandez’s obsession with gangs, as well as the secrets that existed in his home life.
The documentary appears to draw some parallels with the OJ Simpson case given the stardom associated with and respect paid to the man at the centre of the murder – and the sheer disbelief that, despite the damning evidence, he could have committed the crimes he was convicted of.
Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez will be streaming on Netflix from January 15.
