Love Island bosses have rejected extra mental health support, claiming they’ve ‘done enough’

Rebecca O'Keeffe

This is a bit mad.

So Love Island is returning to our screens tonight, and we’re quite excited.

However, the reality show has come under fire in recent months, due to the issues surrounding mental health on the show.

Sophie Gradon and Mike Thalassitis suffered depression after leaving the ITV show, and subsequently took their own lives.

It brought about a discussion about mental health for the contestants of the show.

The show bosses have confirmed they will provide better aftercare and contestants will receive financial and social media training, as well as mental health counselling post-filming.Rightly.

However, now it seems as though the Love Island bosses have turned down extra help.

Taking to Twitter, Dr Christian wrote to his 300,000 followers:

“So a new series of Love Island begins tonight.”

“They’ve tried to tick some diversity boxes, which is a start, but when I reached out to offer help with the mental health of contributors ITV responded saying ‘they had done enough’.”

“I can’t help feeling those words are ill-advised.”
