The legislation has been proposed by Shane Ross.
The Minister for Transport, Shane Ross, has proposed new legislation for Irish drivers.
This new legislation would mean that drivers could get penalty points and an €80 fine if stopped without a licence.
Up to now, if you were stopped and were unable to produce your licence, you had 10 days to present it to a garda station.

That will no longer be the case, if Minister Ross’s legislation is approved.
Sources have said that the proposal is a direct result of the introduction of the Clancy Amendment.
The Minister’s proposal will also include an increase in speeding fines.

If an Irish driver is going 10km ph over the speed limit, they would get an €80 fine and two penalty points.
This will go up accordingly, so if a driver is going 30km ph over the limit, they would receive six points and a €200 fine.
Yikes.
