This story contains Riverdale spoilers, obviously.
Riverdale has had its fair share of murder, mystery and drama for such a small town.
So far, there was the mystery of what happened to Jason Blossom – and how killed him. And then, last season, there was the whole thing with the Black Hood terrorising the town.
This year, it’s all about the Gargoyle King – the mythical-like figure who appears to be behind a load of deaths in the town.
Not a lot has been revealed about the bad guy of the season until this week’s episode – where a whole new batch of information was revealed…and it led to one character’s death.
Okay, beyond this photo, there are spoilers for Riverdale’s most recent episode.
Really, we mean it.
Still here?
…
Okay, lets continue, then.
Riverdale fans were left heartbroken after Joaquin DeSantos was unexpectedly killed off in this week’s episode.
The fan favourite character was discovered by Jughead, who arrived back at Serpent HQ to find his lifeless body under a tarp. Joaquin had blue lips – and the all-too-familiar symbol of the Gargoyle King branded on his head.
So, really, it was pretty grim.

Joaquin met his end after confirming that he had been working for Warden Norton, which is why he had stabbed Archie during his prison escape. He also told the gang that Norton had been working for “the man in the black suit”…aka: Hiram Lodge.
Throughout the episode, it was also confirmed that the symbol meant sacrifice – although it’s not clear who Joaquin was a sacrifice to.
Fans were heartbroken over the character’s sudden death. Like, really, really heartbroken.
