Comedian David McSavage’s show at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin took an unexpected turn on Thursday night, when Al Porter engaged with the crowd after being called out by David McSavage.
Al stood up from his private box and confirmed to David that he had learned his lesson following the allegation made against him.
It all came about when David spoke about his situation. According to The Sun, he said to the crowd:
“Al Porter is no Harvey Weinstein or Kevin Spacey and he has been punished and gone through enough shit.
We all have to explore our sexuality when we are young. How can we know a boundary until we’ve crossed it?”
Then, David signals to the private box to the side of stage, and said, “Have you learned your lesson Al?” To the shock of the audience, Al stood up and shouted ‘Yes’ back to David.
David then went on to say:
“We all have to learn lessons when we are Al’s age. This guy is younger than my eldest child. I’m telling you, in this case the punishment should fit the crime and Al Porter has been punished enough.”
He closed by commenting on how Al he acted while in the height of fame:
“You were a bit of a f*ckng eejit for a while alright with your TV and radio. Your head went up your own arse. No one heard from you, you gobshite.”
Al took a step back from all aspects of his media career last year after he was accused by different men of inappropriate behaviour.
A number of men spoke publicly about inappropriate advances they say they’ve had from Al. Another allegation was made by a former patient of St. Patrick’s Hospital during a visit he paid to the hospital in August 2015.
