Who knew 60 seconds could cause such a controversy?
In a time when most of us fast-forward through the ads, it seems some folk still pay a whole lot of attention to them and even go as far as to make formal complaints when they’re displeased.
Yes, we’ve all seen some pretty dodgy ads on TV (sorry Kendal, we’re looking at you) but one, in particular, had viewers up in arms… but it might surprise you.
It seems Moneysupermarket’s #EpicStrut ad campaign didn’t go down too well with some viewers.
According to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), they received 455 complaints this year calling the ad ‘inappropriate’.
Many viewers found the ad to be overtly sexual, possibly homophobic, and offensive, and even suggested it might encourage hate crimes.
The findings also showed that more times than not, complaints are made by men, with 7,729 complaints this year made by men in comparison to the 5,031 made by women.
