Gardaí have confirmed today that the safety gear that washed ashore in Mayo, at the weekend, was belonged to the missing crew members from the Irish Coast Guard Helicopter R116 that crashed in March.
According to RTÉ, local Gardaí have confirmed that the helmet and lifejacket, that were found, belonged to missing crew member Ciarán Smith.
The body of Ciarán and his colleague Paul Ormsby have yet to be found.
The lifejacket was said to have been inflated and in good condition, while the helmet was attached to it. They washed ashore at An Clochar beach on Saturday morning. An Clochar is located near Blacksod on the Mayo coastline.
