A search is underway in Canada after an Irish man went missing while out swimming with friends.
A group of people were swimming in British Columbia on Friday when one of them, an Irish man, failed to surface. They were swimming in the Beaver Creek area at the time when he went missing.
Early reports suggest he was diving from a bridge into the water when he did not resurface.
According to RTÉ, the man, who is 26-years-old, is originally from the West of Ireland and had been living in Canada for some time.
The Department of Foreign Affairs has released the following statement:
“The department is aware of an incident in British Columbia involving an Irish citizen. Our Embassy in Ottawa is liaising closely with the local authorities and the department is providing consular assistance in this case.”
His family are on the way to Canada as the search continues.
