Actor Jon Hamm is to undergo surgery on his throat.

The Man Men star, 42, who plays executive Don Draper on the critically acclaimed AMC series, is set to undergo surgery next week to remove a large polyp in his throat that has affected his voice.

His rep confirmed the actor’s pending surgery to People Magazine, calling it a “routine outpatient procedure.”

“He’s having a single polyp removed from his throat” they continued.

The actor seemed in good spirits during this year’s Emmy Awards but was noticeably more raspy sounding when presenting the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series to Veep‘s Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Thankfully Hamm will have plenty of time to recover before Mad Men returns for the seventh and final season of the series which isn’t set to be premiered until 2014.

Season seven will be split into two parts.
