Top filmmaker Woody Allen is to receive an honorary Cecil B DeMille award for contribution to cinema at next year’s Golden Globes.
“There is no-one more worthy,” said awards organiser Theo Kingma.
Allen is best known for his romantic comedy Annie Hall which won the 77-year-old two Oscars for both screenwriter and director. Actress Diane Keaton also picked up an award for the movie for “Best Actress.”
Woody Allen has won four Oscars over the years from a total of 23 nominations.
However, the director has garnered a reputation for not turning up at ceremonies. It’s not known as to whether he will be attending the awards.
Allen won a Golden Globe last year for Midnight in Paris, where actress Nicole Kidman accepted the award on his behalf.
By winning the Cecil B DeMille award, Allen joins fellow visionaries like Walt Disney, Alfred Hitchcock, Martin Scorsese and Audrey Hepburn.
