Say hello to the zip bag – no not the plastic zip lock bag! This innovative bag actually uses real zips.
Though small in original shape these bags can transform themselves into much bigger bags which we can definitely see being handy if you’re short of space.
According to the YouTuber, his Japanese bags were bought back in 1984; “and as well as being fun, they are an interesting example of topology!”
“Essentially a long strip of tough fabric with an attached zip, when you do the zip up, it becomes a useful bag” he adds.
“Depending on the distance from the start of the zip to the end of the strip, 4 different shapes of bag are possible. In addition, you can even combine 2 strips, to make a bigger bag.”
Though it’s unclear as to whether these bags are still available somewhere, considering that this video has gone viral, we might see a resurgence of zip bags back on the market!
