If you’re a bit squeamish we’d advise you to click out now. A customer at the Downtown Hotel in Dawson City, Canada was fined $500 for swallowing a beloved toe.
The human toe was part of the famous “Sour Toe Cocktail.”
According to the “toe captain” Terry Lee, the customer swallowed the drink with the toe in it and left $500 on the table.
This drink is actually is part of a famous Canadian tradition where the customer is to take a shot of whiskey with the toe in the glass. The drinker must have the toe touch their lips but not swallow it.
According to CBC, the tradition of the Sour Toe started in 1973 when local named Captain Dick found a severed toe preserved in a jar. Several of the toes have been consumed or destroyed over the years.

Lee believes that this the first time that it was swallowed deliberately. Thankfully though, they had a backup toe (seriously).
In fact, over the years, about eight toes have gone missing but they’ve still managed to find new ones.
The “fine” for swallowing the toe was $500 it’s now been raised to a whopping $2500.
