Handy tips to help your sensitive skin...

Healthy skin is a combination of both good products, eating the right foods and most importantly, knowing what is best for your skin type.

In the second of a five-part series, we look at top tips for combating sensitive skin.

Foods that benefit sensitive skin

Cucumber is super hydrating and filled with antioxidants.

Beetroot is an amazing detoxifying vegetable, cleansing the body and in turn promotes a calming effect on the skin.

Coriander is great for helping to calm and heal eczema, dryness, and fungal infections.

Cleansing & Moisturising

Products that contain fragrances are more likely to aggravate sensitive skin, causing rashes and redness.

Avoiding scented soaps, cleansers, deodorants, and lotions isn’t always easy but fortunately there are a number of companies that offer unscented versions you just must read the label carefully. Look for the “fragrance free” or “parabens free” sign on labels.

After washing your face or showering always pat dry the skin, never rub as this can easily cause inflammation.

Homemade Treatment

A mango mask is excellent for sensitive skin. Simply peel a ripe mango and squash into pulp. Mix 1 teaspoon of mango pulp with 1 teaspoon of sugar and use it to peel and prepare your skin for the actual mask that’s now to follow.

The second part of the mask is made using the remainder of the pulp mixed with 3 teaspoons of oil (olive or argan). Apply it carefully and leave for 20 minutes.

Then gently wash off and dry, there will be absolutely no need to apply any additional lotion afterwards!

MakeUp

Mineral makeup is ideal for sensitive skin.  As an organic product it does not contain any of the fragrances, dyes, or other potential irritants that the vast majority of other makeups do.

Many ranges claim that products are ‘hypoallergenic’ or ‘dermatologist’ tested but with a good mineral foundation you know that you are guaranteed it, and it is the best option for any woman suffering with sensitive skin.

Other Tips

Avoid extremely hot water, lukewarm water is best for sensitive skin, as hot water can quickly dry out your skin and leave it cracked, red, and itchy.

Always carry allergy tablets. Antihistamines cool the blood which can prevent horrible flare ups.

Invest in hydrocortisone cream.
