Talk about not having a lot of respect for your team! A Florida restaurant owner who faced closure took the action to fire his entire staff – by text.
Gregory Kennedy, owner of Barducci Italian Bistro in Orlando, closed down his restaurant earlier this month but instead of gathering all of his staff together to inform them of the bad news he sent them this text message instead:
“I unfortunately need to inform you that I have been forced to close Barducci’s effective immediately.”
As you can imagine, this didn’t exactly sit well with the former employees who were on their day off when they received the message.
“I think it’s immoral. I think it’s cowardice,” said Jodi Jackson, who worked in the restaurant for the past two years. She said that she was still owed her paycheck and that more than a dozen employees were now without work.
“I think we all deserve our compensation for money he’s already made from us,” Jackson said.
WFTV called Kennedy repeatedly without luck until he finally responded, by text:
“Unfortunately businesses are forced to close across Orlando every day especially in the restaurant sector,” he texted.
“I am working to resolve issues including final paychecks as quickly as possible.”
It’s still unclear as to why the business closed. We’d be feeling pretty miffed if we got this message!
