New research has found that there is one downside to being in a long term relationship – it kills your sex drive.
The study, which was conducted by the University of Turku and Abo Akademi University, in Finland, found that women in long term relationships experienced lower sexual desire more so than women who were single.
The study, which was published by Psychology Medicine, was conducted over a seven year period looking at different women’s relationship habits in terms of sexual satisfaction and frequency. It also based the findings on the women’s relationship status throughout the seven years and is one of the first studies of its kind.
According to The Sun, a previous study maintained that having sex once a week while in a long term relationship was enough to keep people happy, whereas this study has proven different. It found that women who remained in a relationship throughout the study felt they had less of a desire for sex.
Also, women who began dating mid way through the study found a decrease in sexual desire by the end of the seven year study.
Among the whole group, sexual satisfaction varied but the ability to have an orgasm was the same for most women.
