There’s a genuine reason why getting a takeaway tonight is a good idea

Cassie Delaney

It’s tempting at the best of times but today getting a takeaway could actually help one very worthwhile cause.

JUST EAT have partnered with the Peter McVerry Trust and for every takeaway ordered tonight, 5% of the value of every order will go towards the charity.

Better yet, JUST EAT will continue to donate 5% every Tuesday for the remainder of November.

A release from the food delivery app says that they are supporting the charity’s ongoing work to provide housing solutions for young people experiencing homelessness.

The Peter McVerry Trust offer a variety of services to homeless people including housing services, drug treatment services and residential services.

If you can’t bring yourself to get a takeaway, don’t forget you can donate a shoebox.

Luas have teamed up with Inner City Helping Homeless  for the Christmas Shoe Box Appeal for the second year running.

Last year the staff at Luas managed to collect 3,000 shoeboxes, but this year they are hoping to smash that record and collect 5,000 shoeboxes to be distributed to the homeless throughout the festive period.

The idea is simple. All you have to do is fill a shoe box with gifts and toiletries and leave it at the Connolly Luas stop on Thursday the 8th of December between 7am-7pm. The boxes will be gathered up by staff and handed out to those who need them most.

Here’s an idea of a few of the things you can include:

  • Socks
  • Underwear
  • Tooth paste / Tooth brush
  • Roll on Deodorant
  • Shower Gel / Shampoo
  • Hand / Body Lotion
  • Chocolate / Sweets
