There’s one thing you should know about me. I have absolutely no pain threshold whatsoever.
I break out in a sweat if I have to take a plaster off (the only way to do it is to close my eyes, look the other way and have someone else do it for me) and my choice to get my ears pierced was more a rebellion than a style statement.
This, coupled with the fact that a wax in a foreign country was witnessed by a picture of our Lord Jesus himself on the wall, meant that I lost all wax confidence and have made use of (and mastered) many other hair removal techniques.
So when I was faced with the challenge to try out a pain-free wax, I was intrigued to say the least.
My mum had always warned me against the razor, stressing that it strengthens and thickens the hair as opposed to weakening it like waxing, and I knew that she was right. I would give waxing a second chance…
This pain-free wax (could there be such a thing?!) was booked for a Friday evening. I figured if I had to escape halfway through or found it in any way painful, I could easily go numb myself with a few alcoholic beverages afterwards.
The experience wasn’t that bad at all…

On removal, you feel a slight sensation as the hair is pulled from its roots. It is miles and miles from the traditional cloth wax ripping pain. How did I ever do it to myself?
My skin was still quite sensitive after the treatment and you’re advised not to have a hot shower or do intense exercise for the next 24 hours. Like any wax, the real results showed after a couple of days.
Ta-dah! And you know what…? I’ve even booked myself another appointment…
