Four Of The Best Johnny Depp Films Versus Four Of The Worst

Such highs and lows Johnny, such highs and lows...

Sue Murphy

Johnny Depp turns 51 today and despite having quite the amazing career to date he has still managed to release some horrific films. We take a look at four of his best that you simply must see versus four that you should avoid at all costs.

Four of the Best

1. Edward Scissorhands

The film that really put Johnny on the map has to be this wonderful Burton piece about a quiet withdrawn guy with huge scissors for hands. We wonder how this film was pitched…

2. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

After its release the film took on a sort of cult status and is consistently listed in many people’s favourite movie lists. Probably one of his finest…

3. The Pirates of the Caribbean

We ask you to attempt to forget about the films that follow, the original Pirates was a really fun romp. Drunken pirate Johnny was hilarious, until we saw three more movies. Not so funny anymore.

4. Sweeney Todd – The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

We know that by this stage, Johnny was seriously repeating some of his characters and their traits. In fact, many could argue he literally did not have an original performance left in him. However, for Sweeney Todd, it all worked.

Four of the Worst.

1. Every other Pirates of the Caribbean

Laughing at drunk Johnny Depp was only funny for so long, unfortunately the series ran out of steam very quickly and with nowhere to go, following a drunk pirate everywhere was not the best idea.

2. The Rum Diary

Probably the most boring film we have ever seen.

3. The Tourist

Not even the fact that Johnny starred alongside Angelina could make us like this one. Truly awful and incredibly boring, The Tourist was a complete failure.

4. Dark Shadows

It worked for Sweeney Todd, but that quirky weird character didn’t work for Dark Shadows. When the trailer is funnier than the film, you know you have a problem.
