We always need the help and support of our mothers but there are occasions when we need to call in our Dads. There is a special type of bond that a father has with their daughter, here are the eleven occasion that prove it…
1. When your car breaks down
Sure, you could call the AA and they would probably sort the problem a lot quicker but really we just want to have a rant to our Dad. The inevitable question will be “is it a flat tyre?” but we’re not that helpless! “Dad, the car just won’t bloody start!”
2. When you need money
The added advantage of asking your Dad for money is that you won’t get a lecture about how you’re spending it. However, it is hilarious that we state we’re just “borrowing” it. If we were really just borrowing it, we’d probably owe him about ten grand at this stage.
3. When you need an honest opinion
You have arrived home for the weekend for a family dinner. It’s an important occasion so you are wearing your brand new dress. Your brand new dress that you are not too sure about… You have asked your Mam how you look but she replied, “Oh… It’s… lovely” with long pauses in between. Your Dad, on the other hand, had no problem telling you you looked like the curtains.
4. When you go through a break up
It doesn’t matter if they were the best partner you ever had, with very valid reasons for why you should go your separate ways, your Dad will always be on your side. Your mother may tow the “there is no chance of you getting back together?” but your father will go with the straight up “never liked them anyway.”

5. Random sports question
You’re a big tennis fan, you watch rugby and you occasionally dip in and out of soccer but the chances of you knowing a random football fact from the World Cup in 1974 is slim. Dad can’t seem to remember any anniversary but he sure as hell knows who put the ball in the Netherlands net.
6. Opening a jar
Look, you made a good attempt at it. You have banged the bloody jar off every counter in the kitchen but it just won’t open. “DAD”
7. You’ve had a serious issue
You’ve a problem that you can’t tell your Mam, she will just get too emotional about it. You do need some advice though and you need to tell someone you trust. Hello Dad…
8. Need a lift
You are home for the weekend and your friends are heading into town for a bit of a liquid lunch/all day beer garden session. Now, you are insured on your mother’s car but that would mean you will have to drive home. You need a lift… Now, who to ask?

9. Legal or bank related questions
You need a loan, and when you went to the bank they spilled out a lot of legal terms about borrowing money. Your parents have a mortgage. Surely your Dad knows what the hell they are talking about…
10. Talking your Mam around to an idea
Let’s be fair, we are all absolute pros at playing our parents off against each other so we are no strangers to having to get your Dad to talk your Mam around to an idea. “But Mam, Dad said it was fine…”
11. Chill out time
You have had a really tough week, you have broken up with your boyfriend, you are not doing so well in your job, but you know that you can go home and sit with your Dad. No questions will be asked, you can kick back, watch Terminator and have a beer. What would we do without them?
Bonus mention – Thanks for looking after all those creepy-crawlies over the years.
