Two pilots were arrested on suspicion of being under influence of alcohol

Two pilots in Scotland were arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol. 

The captain and first officer were due to fly a passenger plane from Glasgow Airport to Toronto, Canada, but were stopped from doing so before take off after the cabin crew became suspicious of their behaviour.

According to STV, the flight never left due to the incident and passengers were given overnight hotel accommodation with a rescheduled flight expected to leave today.

A Police spokesman released the following statement, “Police can confirm two men aged 39 and 37 have been arrested in relation to allegedly being impaired through alcohol under the Railway and Transport Act 2003. They will appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Tuesday.”

A spokesman for the Canadian airline said, “Air Transat has learned of the arrest on July 18 of two crew members assigned to its Glasgow-Toronto flight.

“We will await the results of the investigation and judicial proceedings before commenting on the matter before making any further comments. The safety of our crews and passengers is, and will remain, a top priority at Air Transat.”
