Fans of Coronation Street are still reeling today following last night’s shattering episode that saw the death of show favourite Kylie Platt.
Speculation has been mounting for weeks as to how the character – played by Paula Lane – would be killed off. During last night’s episode, viewers saw Clayton stab her, and she later died from those injuries.

Soap fans quickly took over Twitter to give their reviews of the episode, and opinions varied greatly.
Some considered the scenes heartbreaking. Cheryl Cole, for one, was in bits:

While some were outraged that the episode, which was pretty violent, was shown before the watershed:
There was a warning before the episode of violent scenes so people stop complaining it was too graphic for kids #Corrie

Mostly, viewers were full of praise for the performances of Lane and co-star Jack P. Shepherd (David).
Watching David tell Max that his mum has died has just finished me off… What an emotional episode. I'm in bits. #Corrie

For her part, Paula Lane tweeted this last night after the episode aired:
I loved every second of my time on the street – always my family and always in my heart. Onto the next chapter pic.twitter.com/v9uSZod7ox

But the pictures that will really touch soap fans’ hearts are these behind-the-scenes pics that Shepherd shared on Twitter last night.

The snaps show the two stars messing about in between takes – “wasn’t tears all the time”, as Shepherd puts it.

Corrie’s official Twitter account also shared this video about the filming of the tragic scenes:

As for what’s going to happen in the show next, Shepherd has been giving some clues in recent interviews: “For now, grief and a desire for revenge, but in the long term it will be interesting to see what sort of person he will become.
“Now he doesn’t have Kylie to rein him in, he’s on the warpath. Everything was going great and now he wants someone to pay.”
Yikes.
Let’s just look at David and Kylie’s smiling picture one more time, shall we?
