We all get stuck in a rut with our go-to hairstyle for a night out on the town.
Two bleeps from the GHD confirm you’ll be leaving it down for the night or a bottle of hairspray and a few backcombing hours later means you’ll have your trademark Geordie massive ‘do styled for the evening ahead.
We’re looking for something simple and cute. So, by right, we’ve been inspired by Hollywood starlet Mila Kunis.
Mila has just been named FHM‘s World’s Sexiest Woman, by the way, so you’ll be guaranteed to impress with this style.
It’s The Ponytail.
The mundane style your mum used to tie your hair up in for primary school? Yes. The ponytail is back with a bang after being spotted on numerous catwalks this fashion season.
We have four variations of The Ponytail to try out, all inspired by Pinterest.
1. The Cute Pony
This is ideal for long or medium-length hair. Divide your hair in half, one half coming down over each shoulder. Curl the ends of each side and spray lightly wth hairspray.
The key here is to avoid the tight, Croydon facelift look. You want to keep your hair looking casual and loose. Tie your hair back and gently loosen the hair above the hairtie.
Lightly spray the style to finish. Cute ribbon optional.

2. The Pony With A Twist
If you’re looking to add a little length to your hair, this style is perfect and gives the illusion of long locks. Wash your hair and condition it well. To dry, turn your head upside down and blowdry, giving your hair plenty of volume.
Section off the front two side sections of your hair.
Tie the back of your hair into a ponytail, keep it low near the nape of your neck.
Twist the front sections back towards the ponytail. Cross each side over to the other side of the ponytail and twist around the hairtie. Secure with clips and hairspray liberally. Wow, look achieved.

3. The Messy Pony
If you’re not a fan of tying your hair back from your face but still want to hop on the ponytail trend, this is the style for you. Wash hair and condition well. To blowdry, tip your head upside down and dry with cold/warm setting.
Section your hair into three and tip your head back. Begin to plait the three parts together as if you are creating a braid. One round of braiding is enough to create the messy look above the tie. Holding the plait behind, twist it from the right to the left (bringing your right hand up over your left hand).
Pin up, adding a bit of height to the plait. Add as many pins as you like to make it secure, just make sure you can’t see them! After all, it’s meant to be “messy”. Ironic we spend more time on that ponytail than any other!
Spray to secure style and finish. Gently pull at the style if it looks too neat.

4. The Sleek Pony
Oh, this pony screams style! Straighten your hair and pin up the top back section of your hair.
Using a small brush, backcomb what will be underneath this section of hair. The more you backcomb, the bigger the beehive. Hairspray it a little to keep the volume. Tip head back and leave the pinned section down. Brush the hair carefully and secure it at the nape of your neck, making sure none of the messy backcombing is visible.
Hairspray to secure and you’re ready to show off your ponytail…
