After she was attacked by a man on the street, Katya Kremlin made it her business to come up with a device that could help other women feel safe when out and about.

Sixteen years ago, Katya was walking alone when a man approached her and tried to strike up a conversation.

She didn’t have time to talk and so she made to move forward when the man pulled out a knife and attacked her.

In a lengthy Facebook post, spotted on METRO, Katya explained the horrifyingly traumatic attack and how close she came to dying.

Thankfully, someone came to her aid and alerted emergency services with an ambulance taking her to a hospital.

She was taken to hospital where her knife wounds were operated on and she spent the next few weeks in intensive care.

Katya said she saw the “devotion” of her family as they waited at her bedside and how the hospital staff worked so hard to save her.

This moved Katya immensely and now she wants to give back, doing all she can do to stop similar attacks from happening.

She co-founded Nimb, a panic button encased in a ring that can send alerts to emergency contacts by pressing on it for three seconds.

This will send your location and a message alert to those who you have designated as your chosen contacts.

To get Nimb off the ground, Katya has set up a crowdfunding Kickstarter campaign which has already exceeded her original goal of $50,000.

Described as a “ring with a concealed button that notifies family, friends, emergency services and the Nimb community when you’re in trouble”, Katya believes this technology is necessary in order to help women stay safe.
