A man had two fingers and a thumb cut off in an assault in Waterford yesterday afternoon.

It is believed that the man was beaten before his fingers and thumb were cut off with either a knife or a saw.

According to RTÉ, the man was attacked by “at least two men” in the Priory Lawn Estate area at approximately 2:50pm.

He is currently being treated at Cork Univeristy Hospital where he has had surgery.

A stolen car was used to make a getaway from the scene but it was later found by Gardaí who are currently examining it.

An investigation is underway into the attack, including house-to-house enquiries, but no arrests have been made yet.
