This weekend marks a whole host of birthdays from Tinsel Town like Bette Davis, Gregory Peck and Charlton Heston so we thought we would put together a list of old classic movies with the birthday stars for your Sunday afternoon. Let’s face it, Sunday afternoons were made for watching either Westerns or classic films…
1. L.A. Confidential
Since it’s Russell Crowe’s birthday this weekend, we couldn’t really go with Gladiator here but a film he gave a much better performance in and one that was robbed of an Oscar.
2. The Godfather: Part II
The wonderful director of The Godfather also celebrates this weekend and since we already suggested part one of the trilogy for the essential Marlon Brando, we would suggest the second, and maybe better, instalment.
3. To Kill A Mockingbird
This classic reworking of the international bestseller by Harper Lee may require several boxes of tissues. Didn’t we all just want to know Atticus Finch?
4. Ben-Hur
If you haven’t seen Ben-Hur, this is classic compulsive viewing. Also, look out for his watch while he is in the Circus Maximus. And that plane. Bad continuity errors…
5. All About Eve
Arguably Bette Davis greatest role as the indestructible Margo Channing, All About Eve revolves around an actress who is beginning to lose her influence.
6. Adam’s Rib
Starring Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn, the plot revolves around tensions which begin when a married couple work as opposing lawyers in a case where a woman shot her husband.
