As a society, we have certainly advanced in terms of gender equality, but that doesn’t mean we still don’t have very far to go.
This is evidenced by a recent headline in the prestigious newspaper The Financial Times, which read ‘Millennial mums going gaga for organics spark J&J rethink’.
You might not think much of this headline, but one 14-year-old pulled the publication up, on what she deemed to be an outdated way of thinking about parenting.
Anna Scheitler Nielsen aged 14 made the point that ‘parenting is a shared responsibility’, and that the paper was reinforcing the stereotype that looking after children was the woman’s job.
Round of applause.
(Side Note: Congratulations to her for being a 14-year-old who READS THE FINANCIAL TIMES. Amazing.)
