Experts at the University of Missouri in the States have carried out research on the “perfect breakfast”. They’ve discovered that a high protein breakfast of eggs and steak (yes, steak) could help you stay slim and stop dieters snacking on unhealthy high-fat or high-suger foods in the evening.
It was the first breakfast study to examine the impact of the morning meal on daily appetite and evening snacking.
Protein-loaded foods like eggs (because, let’s face it, a steak mightn’t be the most realistic thing to eat in the morning) or healthy protein-rich cereals can have a knock-on effect on your appetite for the day.
If you’re someone who regularly skips breakfast, you could be quite sceptical about eating in the morning, but researchers say it only takes three days for the body to adjust to eating early in the day.
Future research will now examine if eating high-protein breakfasts will improve body weight management in young people.
The study was published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
