Company behind Dolmio issues warning about how often some products should be consumed

The advice is part of a Health and Wellbeing Ambition.

Mars Food, the company behind Dolmio and Uncle Ben’s produce, said that some of their foods should only be eaten “occasionally”.

As part of a new Health and Wellbeing Ambition initiative, the company is set to introduce new labels on some of its foods so that shoppers can tell the difference between foods that can be eaten everyday and those that should be consumed from time to time.

Speaking to the BBC, a representative for Mars Food stated that the warning only applied to 5% of produce including Dolmio lasagne meal kits and carbonara and pesto sauces.

To maintain the “authentic taste” some foods are high in sugar, salt and fat but this is all set to change “to create and promote healthier food choices”.

Many products are set to be reformulated during the five-year initiative to cut down on the amount of sugar, fat and salt.

Mars Food has said that as part of their global health plan, they will reduce sodium by an average of 20 percent by 2021 and reduce added sugar in a limited number of sauces and light meals by 2018

The company has released a full statement about the new plan and you can check it out here.
