The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors begins its annual conference in Westport today.
The have already spoken about their concerns that they do not possess the capability to respond to radical extremism and international terrorism.
According to RTÉ, the association has said that they receive information on severe weather alerts but none on the terrorist threat level. They are calling on Garda commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan to provide them with appropriate training.
They have also stated that Gardaí members will march on the Dáil on the first day of the new government to protest over current pay conditions. They are seeking support from current and retired Gardaí and hope to raise awareness over the lack of progress in their review system.
They are also calling to be issued with anti-ballistic vests rather than the stab-proof ones they currently utilize.
