UK Home Secretary Theresa May has funded police for another £95,000 in the search for Madeleine McCann. The money will fund another six months of searching.
According to The Metro, Kate and Gerry McCann expected the investigation would be halted this month after 9 years of searching has produced little result.
Kate expected the operation, known as Operation Grange, would be concluded this year to end the financial year.
Once the added funds run out, Scotland Yard will end the 5-year inquiry which has cost £12 million so far.
A statement from The Met reads:
“A team of four officers continue to work solely on the Operation Grange investigation. These officers are funded by the Home Office. There are no immediate plans to reduce officer numbers further at this time.
“The enquiry has not reached a conclusion, there are still focused lines of investigation to be pursued.
“The officers will continue to be overseen by Detective Chief Inspector Nicola Wall, the current senior investigating officer, and the team sits within an existing major investigation unit on the Homicide and Major Crime Command.
“This provides the team with access to additional officers within that unit should the investigation require support for operational activity.”
